Germany, UK and other stuff

Hi all

It’s been a long time with no posts. We spend most our time on Facebook (which we update several times a day, because we have no offline life).

However here’s some of what has happened since last: First ‘Trouble Is’ made it to #1 on the German University Radio Chart and stayed there for two weeks, second Jokers spectacular remix of ‘Trouble Is’ got played on BBC 1, first by Mista Jam, then by several other dj’s. It has also been played on XFM UK, Rinse FM, and has been blogged by Fader, Neonized, XL8R and tons of other blogs world wide. The single and remix is available digitally in the UK and DK, and the 12″ vinyl is on it’s way (also featuring the track Holiday and a remix by Russell from Bloc Party).

What else? We played a couple of fun German gigs with Who Made Who in Berlin, Dortmund, Erlangen and Stuttgart, and hope to come back soon. Probably in February/March. The spree of gigs with WMW culminated in an amazing home coming night at Vega, Copenhagen at the Sound Of Copenhagen event. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a blast.

December will take us to Münich, Hagen and Aflenz near Vienna, before we go into christmas hibernation.

Help out with video for ‘Holiday’ this tuesday!

ENG:
We are recording a new video for Holiday, and need 30 people who want to help out tuesday the 14th from 16-20 in Copenhagen. We’ve written the details in danish below. If you’re english speaking, and in the neighbourhood, and you want to help out please write back for more info.

DK:

Liverpool Soundcity & SPOT

We’re home from Liverpool Soundcity and SPOT festival and have spent all sunday recovering from excessive amounts of party and musical exposure. Below are a couple of generous reviews from our SPOT show at Voxhall friday the 22nd, which we know that many people missed because of a completely full venue. We hope to catch you next time we’re in town or around.

Soundvenue (5/6)
“Turboweekend enjoys a buzz and a popularity only given to few acts at the SPOT festival, and the trios reputation as an energetic and dedicated live band made sure that Voxhall was filled to the brim with dancefloor disciples friday night. The groups name says it all, you might think, but it’s only half the truth.

Turboweekends latest album ’Ghost of a chance’ is less rave-oriented than their debut, and even though the group’s intense, new wave inspired popmusic still inspires dance, it is never without melancholy and despair digging their claws into your shoulders.

In the world of Turboweekend you ”trust” your loved one madly, and ”fall” under her spell, that is when you’re not shouting for her attention. And the most dancable tunes bear titles like ”Erase Myself” and ”Something or Nothing”. The latter was, along with the single ”After Hours” and concert opener ”Trouble Is”, this evenings high lights, but generally the new songs work really well, pumped up to dancefloor format.

Bass player Morten Køie bounced like a flexing muscle under the entire set, while live addition Anders Møller supplied even the most energetic outbreaks with dark atmospheric synth layers. Lead singer Silas Bjerregaard is a monster of energy, several times throwing himself into the arms of the audience with a cowbell or tambourine in hand, and even the evenings sole ballad, new song ’Sweet Jezebel’, played out more groovy (and better?) than the album version. Tonight turboweekend added new tonnage to the weight of their name and the disciples sang all the way home.”

GAFFA: (5/6)
Voxhall is absolutely crammed this SPOT-friday. Last concert of the evening on this venue is with Turboweekend, and from first note it promises to be one of the better. A heavy, groovy bass sets off the first song of the set, Trouble Is, which also demonstrates lead singer Silas Bjerregaards vocal capacities brilliantly. The sound is hard, energetic and very danceable, and the predicate heavy-dance, that was used to introduce the band, suddenly makes sense.

The well packed audience has little room to move on, but are never the less jumping and dancing to the catchy melodies, infectuos rhytms and uncompromising synth-noize as if their lives depended on it. Voxhall is close to melt down, and one gets the impression that the band is filled with so much energy that they simply cannot contain inside, and must channel out through the music or burst up them selves. They make no detours, playing tight and self ashured of the quality of their material. The festival crowd is having a party, and are willfully instructed by Silas’s cowbell to clap along before he throws himself into their arms and is carried around as the rest of the band drives the beat to a climax.

But the evenings concert was not all high powered energy. There was also time for more down tempo songs, like Sweet Jezebel, which the band skillfully performed to a concentrated audience, proving that they are a band very much in control of their musical methods. Turboweekends music invites both party and second thoughts. The layers are many and after tonight’s display of power the band is more than wellcome to turbo up my weekend any time.”

Photos added / computer gone

Phew! What a weekend! No pun intended….seriously.
We played a giant stage at Present Århus on friday, with Birk Storm and When Saints Go Machine, and during the general chaos of packing down, our new keyboard players macbook was stolen from the backstage area (volunteers are great, but lack of proper security and supervision sucks). Apart from all his personal stuff, the macbook contained Ableton Live set-ups not only for Turboweekend, but also for the three other bands that Anders plays with regularly, including Birk Storm and Non +.

Anders uses these Ableton setups to control such things as samples, program changes, effects, and a bunch of other stuff, and they are the result of many, many hours of concentrated work and creative consideration not easily recreated. On top of this, the Time Machine backup system that Anders had been running, has somehow failed and not backed up for the past 5 months!!! Besides his macbook, Anders also lost his 80 GB iPod with his entire collection of music, his custom molded In-Ear headphones, some nice clothes and a book, which where all in his suitcase, so he was naturally a bit beaten down.

Never the less he managed, with great self discipline, to muster up the strength to create a make shift setup in three hours, which made it possible for us to play most of the songs in Odense the day after. We were quite nervous when we went on stage saturday, but it turned out to be a great concert for a great audience, and we’re so happy we didn’t decide to cancel the show after all. I’d like to think we took it home on energy and raw skills :)

Thanks to everybody who helped look for the laptop, and to Hans for letting us borrow his macbook for the saturday show. And ofcourse, if you have any idea who the thief might be, please contact us – anonomously if you wish. The most important thing for Anders to get back is the Turboweekend, Birk Storm and Non + folders on the desktop.

On the brighter side, the new photo section is up today with pictures from Vega, apr. 3rd, and we’ll add more tour pictures soon. Enjoy!

Hello, we are Turboweekend, a Danish band based in Copenhagen. As musicians we’ve been playing together since we were 14 years old – but Turboweekend is the real deal; we’re on our second album, ‘Ghost of a Chance’, which we’ve been touring extensively at major festivals and venues in the UK, USA, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Austria and of course, our home country, Denmark.

With Silas’ soaring vocals, Morten’s pumping, dancey bass and Martin’s super-precise drums, Turboweekend combine poetic emotion with genuine dance rock.

We are currently working on our third album, spending any spare time when we aren’t touring in our own recording studio in central Copenhagen. It’s a real pleasure to be inventing, knowing that we’ll be standing on Summer stages soon playing the new songs!

Hope to see you at the gigs! Check ‘Dates’ on the site to keep a look out for new concerts.

-Silas, Morten and Martin (and Anders, our resident keyboard wizard and backing vocalist).

Trouble Is
Oh Me, Oh My
I'm high as a kite
I don't ever want to come back down

Oh My, Oh Me
You're nowhere to see
I've been looking for you all over town

Trouble is...
Trouble is...
Trouble is that you don't care

Oh Me, Oh My
I wonder why
It's like you don't even know me no more

Oh My, Oh Me
This love's for free
And you can have it right here on the floor

Trouble is...
Trouble is...
Trouble is that you don't care
Something Or Nothing
If you’ve been moonlighting I don’t need to know
Just stand beside me now. Come with me when I go
A perfect match lights a perfect fire logically
I’ll trust you madly if you’ll keep your secrecy

When we walk in the dark I hear wolves around us
Would you let them through the kitchendoor?
If you try to satisfy them with a taste
They’ll only hunt you down for more

Did I see something or was it nothing?
Just a flicker that’s already gone
Did you see something, something or nothing?
Would you mind if we turned the lights on?
Did you see something or was it nothing?
Give me a sign to prove me wrong
Did you see something, something or nothing?
I need a push or pull to move along

The chase sometimes is sweeter than the catch
Milk and honey every day and the angels gets lazy and fat
What I mean to say is that I love you, practically
I keep you always in mind no matter who I see

When we lie in your bed there’s a ghost between us
And a double voice when we talk
I don’t know how much longer we can hide
The second shadows everywhere we walk

Did I see something or was it nothing?
Just a flicker that’s already gone
Did you see something, something or nothing?
Would you mind if we turned the lights on?
Did you see something or was it nothing?
Give me a sign to prove me wrong
Did you see something, something or nothing?
I need a push or pull to move along

Sweet Jezebel
You were waiting on the stairs for me
You’d put something in your hair for me
A scent of secret only I could smell

But your face was turned away from me
You were talking to everybody else than me
And your voice rang dark from the bottom of a well

As I fell
Into your spell
Sweet Jezebel

I saw the rush hour stop for you
It didn’t seem like it was new to you
My eyes touched your skin like dust and grime

In my dream I heard the word from you
Telling me exactly what to do
For you to turn back the clockworks of your mind

As I fell
Into your spell
Sweet Jezebel

Holiday
Friday fever dream, eyelashes to the moon
The clock is slowing down, the sun is setting soon
Everybody knows there’s really nothing left to do
And from my corner desk all I think about is you

Not till the hours strikes may I turn invisible
But once we cross the line we can’t be held responsible
Let all hell break loose, let the sky rain snakes and toads
In just an hour I’ll be out of reach and on the road

Holiday! Holiday is coming!

Lift the carpet up! I’ll sweep the table clean
My legs are twitching with a transformation fantasy
Chase and catch the deer, dig my fangs into it’s neck
My shirt’s already red and my pants are soaking wet

Lock the closet tight and scrub the blood from off my hands
When monday comes again I’ll carry out the masters plan.

Holiday! Holiday is coming!

Colors
Silver apples – rolling down the street
Yellow magic – on the corner where we meet
I’ve had a vision – Blue oysters on the green
& there’s no return - Once you have seen
The Shocking Pinks dancing with Bobby Brown

Segregation & Monochromatic schemes
Give way to saturation. I’ve got monkeys in my dreams
Reaching up to pull rainbows to the ground

Colors are coming down – Colors are coming down
Listen up high and low – I hear it all around
Colors are coming down – Colors are coming down
Listen up near and far – I hear it all around
Colors are coming down

The Color Purple is pumping through my veins
I’ll know my king by a histography of his brain
Any fool with a head can wear a crown

Things are going to happen, that you never thought could be
Look through this hole and who knows what you’ll see?
Black Francis making love to the white clown

Colors are coming down – Colors are coming down
Listen up high and low – I hear it all around
Colors are coming down – Colors are coming down
Listen up near and far – I hear it all around
Colors are coming down!

Colors are coming down – Colors are coming down
I’ve seen it high and low – I hear it all around
I’ve seen it near and far – I hear it all around
Colors are coming down

Up With The Smoke - Down With the Ash
I saw the animal six as a silhuette fixed on the back wall
I turned my body around so I could face the sound of the cat’s call
The broken window was shaking and my bones were aching to follow the trail
Where the curtains were torn by the claws and the horns I saw the sweep of the nine tails

Through the shimmering light I stumbled into the nights  empire
And with the spark in my hand I followed blood in the sand to the bonfire
This is a farewell to names, old tags burn in the flames with a flash
And as your old body chokes you rise up with the smoke and come down with the ash

Wind from the coastline blows cross the highs and the lows turning wolves into sheep
Just when the skyline quakes, clouds fall into the lake, stars are lost in the deep
Trombones and tamburines play, big sound makes everything sway
Vision blurred by the heat, bodies are chained to the beat

Breaking the loop, I saw the birdmen swoop down for prey
Their beaks in my back I heard the branches crack as they flew me away
This is a farewell to names, old tags burn in the flames with a flash
And as your old body chokes you rise up with the smoke and come down with the ash

It has exploded the frames, memories tied to the games of the past
I am devided and tossed, among the bones of the lost I am the first and the last
Heart beat, heart beat. We’ve never been down this street
These licks these tricks – We’re playing with the animal six

Through the shimmering light I stumbled into the nights empire
And with the spark in my hand I followed blood in the sand to the bonfire
This is a farewell to names, old tags burn in the flames with a flash
And as your old body chokes you rise up with the smoke and come down with the ash

After Hours
Come by the office when there’s no one but me around
I’ll buzz you right up when everyone else has shut down
It’s nice and quiet and it’s nobody’s business but ours
How we conduct ourselves in this room after hours

I don’t know if you’ve got somebody waiting...
I bet that someone like you, someone like you
Could have them waiting for hours

I’ll show you the ropes of this machinery
In here we make big decisions. Tell me, do you like what you see?
From my window I’ve got a clear view of the towers
When the shadow crawls onto my desk I get an urge to work after hours

I don’t know if you’ve got somebody waiting...
I bet that someone like you, someone like you
Could have them waiting for hours

Erase Myself
There’ll be no blood or crying faces
No pill glass and no swinging ropes
I’ll leave no letter and no traces

There’ll be no rite or ceremony
Not one obituary note
I’ll leave nobody sad and lonely

When I erase myself...

Every word my lips have spoken
Everything my hands have built
And all that they have ever broken

Will be completely relocated
To other peoples history
All my relations freely traded

When I erase myself...

You might stumble on bits and pieces
But trying to connect the dots
You’ll find nothing but random spots

A fragrance or a certain sound
A slight irregularity
Is all that will be left of me

When I erase myself...

Your Body Free From Mine
Your feet on different sidewalks
Your eyes on other signs
Shining with a brand new glow

You’re in another room
Drinking someone elses wine
Laughing at stories I don’t know
And some where down the line: Your body free from mine

Your back on someone else
Between someother sheets
I locked my self out and now I can’t get back inside your mind
How can you say we’re doing fine! Your body free from mine

From this day on and on and on
You’ll take none of my time
Standing in some strangers way
When did you ever look so fine?

Good Morning Moon
Good morning moon, you know the deal
You’ve seen details I can’t reveal
Old moon I trust you sympathize
You’ve seen the truth with your pale eye
You’ve been around the world
I guess these days you’re seldomly impressed

But by the way you shine tonight
I must be onto something right
I must be onto something right!

There are stories meant just for the dark
Once out of shadows they loose their spark
And momentary marriage vows better off broken anyhow
Bright moon I’ve got just one request
That when you settle in the west

Pay visit to the sun and say
This love deserves the light of day
This love deserves the light of day

Yes, by the way you shine tonight
I must be onto something right
Pay visit to the sun and say
This love deserves the light of day

Almost There
Elephant vanishes – Disappears into the black
Such a big part of you – That you can never get back
And on the evening news – hurricane rips it apart
You’re in another world – beating a brand new heart

Yeah O yeah
Boy you’re allmost there

Forget America! – Jump on the train to Saigon
The room is lighter now – Correct me if I’m wrong
Here is what happens next: A verse of unwritten text
Another drop into a bucket overflowing with X

Yeah O yeah
Boy you’re allmost there
